Goats

Goats occupy a special place in animal nutrition. Hartog’s main advantage for selective eaters such as goats is the consistent quality and ease of feeding. Goats are very critical when it comes to their feed. Taste, smell, dry matter content and mouthfeel are key factors by which a goat evaluates its feed. These are exactly the strengths of Hartog roughage products. The fresh, summery scent of the structured bales, combined with the consistent composition and taste, is highly valued by goat farmers. Hartog offers alfalfa bales, grass bales, alfalfa pellets and grass pellets for goat keepers. Due to high-temperature treatment, pathogens such as paratuberculosis (Johne’s disease) and salmonella have no chance to survive. For older goats, we specifically recommend the Hartog Grass Mix, as this product is very palatable and easy to eat. Goats with poorer dentition will often leave the pellets in the Grass Mix.

Sheep

Sheep farming benefits greatly from our dried products, especially dried grass. This product is available in large bales and, more recently, also in compact 20 kg bales.

The top quality of our products is guaranteed through complete process control. Hartog manages the entire production process in-house, from sowing through to distribution to the end user. The production process starts with the selection of contract growers, mainly arable farmers who cultivate crops on heavy, lime-rich clay soils. All Hartog alfalfa originates from Dutch soil. Alfalfa is harvested using our own machinery, allowing it to be cut at the optimal moment. The mower is immediately followed by a chopper, which finely chops the roughage, making it easy for goats and sheep to consume.
