True shine comes from within. Hartog Extra Care has been developed to support hooves, mane and coat from within. For horses that need to look their very best and for horses that could use some extra support to regain their natural appearance: a deeper coat colour, a full mane and tail, and strong hoof horn.

Hartog Extra Care is a tasty pellet made from lucerne and linseed, naturally low in sugar and starch. Enriched with biotin, organically bound trace elements, omega-3 fatty acids and carefully selected herbal extracts. It can be fed on its own or used as a tasty topping over the ration, without the hassle of powders and oils.

A shiny coat, strong hooves and a beautiful mane all start from the inside. Good nutrition plays a key role in this. Are your horse’s coat, mane or hooves dull, dry or brittle? If so, this may be a sign that your horse could do with some extra support from the inside. Hartog Extra Care supplements the ration exactly where extra support may be needed. Good-quality forage always remains the foundation; Hartog Extra Care is a supplement, not a replacement.

What is in Hartog Extra Care, and why?

Linseed for omega-3 fatty acids. Linseed is a rich source of omega-3 fatty acids and is known for its beneficial effect on the skin and coat. These fatty acids support the skin’s natural barrier function and help keep it supple, including in horses with dry or flaky skin. Fatty acids also play a role in hoof horn quality.

Biotin, in an amount that makes a difference. Biotin is an essential B vitamin known for its role in the quality of hoof horn, skin, mane and tail. At the recommended feeding rate, a 600 kg horse receives approximately 20 mg of biotin per day from Hartog Extra Care. This is the amount commonly used in research into hoof horn quality. Read more about biotin for horses

Organically bound trace elements. Hartog Extra Care contains organically bound zinc, copper and manganese. These trace elements support the action of biotin and play a role in skin condition, a rich coat colour and the formation of strong hoof horn.

Herbal extracts from turmeric, fennel and fenugreek. The herbal blend in Hartog Extra Care does not consist of whole herbs, but of active plant compounds that have been isolated from them: flavonoids, saponins, antioxidants and polyphenols. These have been carefully combined so that they complement one another and together support the hooves, mane and coat.

Alfalfa as the base. Alfalfa naturally provides more amino acids and fibre than grass. Amino acids are the building blocks of protein and therefore of hair and hoof horn. The alfalfa also gives Hartog Extra Care its natural green colour.

Which horses is it suitable for?

Hartog Extra Care is suitable for all horses, and particularly for:

  • Horses that need to look perfect at a show, competition or inspection

  • Horses with brittle hoof horn that could use extra support in the formation of new horn

  • Horses during the moulting period

  • Sport horses

  • Nervous and sugar-sensitive horses

  • Horses being brought back into work after a period of rest

  • Easy keepers

  • Senior horses that could use extra support

Hartog Extra Care can be combined with all Hartog balancers, concentrates and forage mixes, and can be fed all year round or during specific periods, for example during moulting or the competition season.

The results according to our testers

Seventeen horse owners fed Hartog Extra Care to a total of 28 horses for two to three months. They gave the product an average score of 8.5, and 100% of the testers said they would recommend it to others.*

Based on Hartog’s own user research among 17 testers with 28 horses who fed Hartog Extra Care for two to three months. Survey conducted between 15 April and 22 August 2026. Average rating: 8.5 on a scale of 1 to 10. All 17 testers indicated that they would recommend the product.
