We recommend 60 grams of Hartog Essential per 100 kg of body weight per day, in addition to sufficient water and roughage.

As Hartog Essential is a highly concentrated feed, it comes with its own measuring cup.

One full measuring cup contains 175 grams of Hartog Essential. The measuring spoon is in the 3.5 kg bucket of Hartog Essential.

Why is extra vitamin E added to the Hartog Essential?
Vitamin E is a potent antioxidant that can support horses during recovery, stress, or training. Vitamin E levels in hay and pre-dried forage can fluctuate and be very low, as the vitamin E content quickly decreases after harvesting. Vitamin E is added to Hartog Essential to guarantee the content, ensuring that your horse is not dependent on uncertain values and has no deficiencies in its ration. The vitamin E content in Hartog Essential is adjusted not to the minimum but to the optimal daily amount. Therefore, when feeding Hartog Essential, there is no need for additional vitamin E supplements.
What is a balancer?
Hartog Essential is a balancer, meaning it is highly concentrated in vitamins, minerals, and trace elements without providing a large amount of energy. In contrast, concentrate feed, such as "krachtvoer," is intended to supply extra energy (and in some cases, proteins). Consequently, concentrate feed is much less concentrated in vitamins, minerals, and trace elements than a balancer. On average, concentrate feed is calculated for a minimum intake of 2 kg per day (for a 600 kg horse). Many horses receive less than the recommended amount of concentrate feed because it may make them too excitable or overweight. In such cases, these horses often do not receive sufficient vitamins, minerals, and trace elements. A balancer ensures that horses meet their requirements for these nutrients without the need for concentrate feed.
Is the Hartog Essential a complete addition to roughage?
Yes! Hartog Essential provides your horse with all the daily necessary vitamins, minerals, and trace elements, along with extra vitamin E and biotin. You don't need to feed any additional concentrate alongside Hartog Essential. Even supplementing with vitamin E or biotin is unnecessary! If your horse has increased energy and/or protein requirements, perhaps due to heavy work, it may be necessary to combine Hartog Essential with another feed, such as Hartog Lucerne Mix. What is the difference between Hartog Essential and Hartog Comfort?
Hartog Essential is the balancer added to Hartog Comfort. Hartog Comfort incorporates all the benefits of Hartog Essential and additionally provides extra structure through chopped grass with various additions such as peas and lupine for additional amino acids. If you are looking for a balancer in pellet form, allowing for reduced volume feeding, then Hartog Essential is the one for you!
