The many benefits of grape seed extract for horses

Grape seeds are often seen as the bitter, unpleasant part of the fruit. However, grape seed extracts contain significant amounts of beneficial nutrients for horses.

Antioxidant effects

First and foremost, grape seeds are rich in components that have powerful antioxidant effects. This can protect the body against damage caused by free radicals. Free radicals are byproducts that are generated during various metabolic processes, including the breakdown of nutrients, physical exertion, and stress. Horses that engage in regular physical activity and are well-trained can effectively combat free radicals. However, horses that are prone to stress may struggle to cope with these free radicals and may experience significant discomfort. Free radicals can disrupt various bodily processes and contribute to conditions such as high blood pressure and abnormal cell division.

Examples of antioxidants found in grape seeds are phenols, proanthocyanidins, and tocopherol. The antioxidant activity of grape seeds is 20 times stronger than that of vitamin C and 50 times stronger than that of vitamin E. In addition to these nutrients, a grape seed also contain a significant amount of vitamin C and beta-carotene for horses. These support the horse’s immune system, and helps make the horse less susceptible to external pathogens.

Purifies blood stream

Furthermore, thanks to their nutrient and antioxidant content, grape seeds have a purifying effect on the bloodstream. They stimulate the removal of waste products from the blood, strengthen the connective tissue of blood vessels, and promote blood circulation. By strengthening the capillaries and improving blood flow, grape seeds contribute to stronger hair and promote hair growth.

Anti-inflammatory

Grape seeds also possess anti-inflammatory properties. The properties reduce the severity of certain conditions such as arthritis, gastric ulcers, and urinary tract infections. Additionally, the antibacterial and antihistamine effects of grape seeds provide protection against lung infections. In summary, grape seeds give a boost to the immune system.
